Stop Chasing Joy?

Hidden Emotions

Have you been “working” on feeling more joyful? The next time you’re feeling a vague sense of dissatisfaction or unease, consider trying the following. First, bring your awareness within, and sit in your belly. Rather than a lack of joy… could it be the existence of fear? Fear of not being good enough, or fear you did something wrong, or maybe you’re in a constant state of alert for no known reason. I used to only identify fear when it was intense; but fear comes in many varieties, such as subtle dissatisfaction. When you sit with what you’re feeling, you may discover that you’re actually scared! The ancient teaching says that It all comes down to two basic emotions: love and fear (with joy being a sub-emotion of love), and that love and fear cannot coexist; when one comes in, the other goes out. If for you, it was indeed a form of fear you found, than just acknowledging it may be the first step in releasing it. When you’re no longer in fear, joy will naturally flow in.
